DIERGARTEN, Götz. Photographs. Hatje Cantz, Ostfildern, 2010.
4vo., original pictorial glazed boards; 154pp., illustrated throughout with colour photo plates; a fine copy.
First edition. In this series Diergarten examines the outward appearance of different everyday buildings following the Becher School. Whilst his works are presented with a documentary-style straightfowardness, the addition of colour transforms the images into abstract fields of space and pattern. In the METROpolis series, which is also included, he works similar magic with tunnels, subways, and railway stations and it is possible to spot the influence of American colour photograpers such as William Eggleston and Stephen Shore in his concept.
