DE SUZE, Joseph A. Little Folks' Trinidad. A short Descriptive, Historical, and Geographical Account of the Island, compiled expressively for Use in Schools ... Twelfth [and last] Edition revised by Carlos C. Hart. Trinidad, Stephens & Todd Ltd., .
Small 8vo. Original red boards, ornamented and lettered in black; pp. 192, illustrated with plates after photographs, 4 colour-printed maps; from Central Library Trinidad and Tobago (released); otherwise a very good copy.
This is a very rare primer on all aspects of Trinidad and Tobago, ranging from natural history, economy, transport, ethnology, government to history, where the author elegantly glosses over the scandalous and brutal behaviour of the Governor Thomas Picton, who was tried for having tortured Luisa Calderón, a young free mulatto girl. HE is called here 'the great and glorious Picton … severe in dicipline. To sum up, he was a true Briton' (p. 173).
