[DARWIN, Charles]. BARLOW, Nora The Autobiography of Charles Darwin 1809-1882. The First Complete Version. Edited by his grand-daughter Nora Barlow. Collins. 1958.
8vo. Original green cloth and wrapper; pp. 253, 4 plates, text illustrations; fine.
First edition. When Darwin's autobiography was first published, edited by his daughter Henrietta, it was heavily expurgated. Nora Barlow, the daughter of Darwin's fifth son Horace, here published an accurate transcription from the original manuscript with Henrietta's omissions restored, and Darwin's complete memoir was available for the first time in the centenary year of the reading of the Darwin-Wallace papers at the Linnean Society.
