First and only edition. This book was published to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Shell company and explores all aspects of the animal that is its famous logo to the present day. Eight different authors, including Sir Mortimer Wheelerand Sir Gavin de Beer, write on the biology, symbolism, etymology, cultural history and culinary qualities of the scallop. The photographs of a scallop elegantly evading a starfish are remarkable to behold.
