8vo., handsomely bound by in full red morocco, french fillet border, spine richly gilt, all edges marbled and gilt, rich gilt turn-ins over marbled endpapers; pp (viii), 480, (28) with 42 woodcuts within the pagination (the majority full page) illustrating table settings, methods of carving meat, fish and fruit. An attractive copy.
Fourth edition "corrigée & augmentée". A popular and likable plagiaristic jumble of cookery texts put together by the anonymous author with bits from Le Maistre d'Hostel (1659), Le Patissier and Confiturier François (1653), de Lune's Cuisinier (1656), and Livre fort Excellent (1555) along with quite a few original recipes. The first edition in English appeared in the same year as this edition.
