CARTER, Jimmy. The Nobel Peace Prize Lecture. New York: Simon and Schuster. 2002.
Small 8vo. Original oatmeal cloth with dustwrapper; pp. xii, 20, printed in blue and black; small stains to front of wrapper, otherwise fine.
First edition. Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his efforts in finding peaceful resolutions to international conflicts. This is his acceptance lecture and it makes clear the connection between his political principles and his religious beliefs: "God gives us the capacity for choice. We can choose to alleviate suffering. We can choose to work together for peace. We can make these changes - and we must".
Taken together, these two items show the creativity and historical sensitivity of a man who, knowing well the terrible price of war, spent his life in the pursuit of consensus, humility and peace.
