First ediions. Carter and Co's own file copy of its seed catalogues from 1869. James Carter was one fit he msot successful seedsmen of the nineteetn century, operating from a shop in High Holborn and achieving prominence by popularising the sweet pea. The company was renowned for its quailty, raising all its own "tested seeds" on four farms in Essexn and proving reliable enough that it became the leading provider of grass seeds to the entire British Empire.
