CAMPBELL, Thomas. The Poetical Works. With fore-edge painting showing Blackfriars Bridge and St. Paul's Cathedral. London: Edward Moxon, 1849.
12mo, bound in full green crushed morocco, ruled in gilt to boards; spine full gilt with five raised bands and contrasting black leather label gilt to spine; turn-ins embossed in blind, marbled endpapers; all edges gilt; the fore-edge with hidden painting showing a view from Blackfriar's bridge; pp. [vii], vi-ix, [iv], 2-343, [v]; with frontis portrait of the poet and thirty-seven woodcuts from designs by Harvey; internally a bright copy, previous ownership name in ink to ffep; slightly dusty to the prelims and offset to title; perhaps a tad shaky in the binding; edges rubbed, and some scoring to the upper board; a very good example.
A charming pocket edition of Campbell's works, with a skillful fore-edge painting hidden under the gilt.
