Uncommon first edition of this company history. The East India merchant Thomas Parry (1764-1824) founded the European mercantile House in Chennai in 1788. 'The founder of an exceptionally important British firm in India, he had helped to lay the foundations of its subsequent economic development. Fittingly his name endured in Madras's urban topography Parry's Corner' (ODNB).
