BOWMAN-MANIFOLD, Sir M.G.E., Major-General. An Outline of the Egyptian and Palestine Campaigns, 1914 to 1918 … Fifth Edition. [London], W. & J. Mackay for The Institution of Royal Engineers, 1928.
8vo. Original printed wrappers; pp. viii, 100, three maps, one panorama, 13 folding maps in up to four colours at the end; wrappers a little frayed at bottom of spine; otherwise rather well preserved.
Very rare. First published in 1922 in the Royal Engineers Journal and then in bookform with small printruns. Sir Michael Graham Egerton Bowman-Manifold had joined the Royal Engineers in 1891 and served mainly in Africa (South and North) and in the Middle East up to 1919. As Signal Officer-in-Chief of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force he had privileged access to the communication of the army during the crucial campaign. Chapter X is on the Arab Army explaining TEL's 'theory of warfare adapted to the Arab character' (p. 67) and describes the taking of Akaba. In the preface the author expresses his gratitue to TEL and military leaders 'for the valuable information which they put at my disposal' (p. III).
