First edition of this Collins New Testament, elegantly designed by the renowned German-born typographer Giovanni Mardersteig (1892-1977) and illustrated with charming reproductions of the Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry, one of the best examples of manuscript illumination.
The Gospel text (King James Version) was printed at Mardersteig’s Stamperia Valdonega in Verona, while the illustrations, courtesy of the Musée Condé in Chantilly, by Drager Frères in Grand-Montrouge, France. The volume includes a short essay on the Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry by Jean Lorgnon, curator and librarian at the Musée Condé.
