BEWICK, Thomas. A Group of Partridge Feathers. 1807.
Pen, pencil and watercolour study (9.5 x 7 inches) in acid free mount, framed in dark wood, inscribed in another hand "TB [in monogram] 1807" on backing sheet at bottom right.
This delightfully composed study was held in the collection of Sir Geoffrey Keynes for some years, before passing to his son Stephen and thence outside the family. Sir Geoffrey had a large number of Bewick manuscripts. This study is reproduced in Iain Bain's The Watercolours and Drawings of Thomas Bewick and his Workshop Apprentices (Gordon Fraser 1981) in Volume 2, pp. 206-7.
Sold with a copy of Iain Bain's book.
