W.H Auden was once quoted as saying, “Real poetry originates in the guts and only flowers in the head. But one is always trying to reverse the process". Said to be taken from his private notebook which now resides in The Morgan Library in New York, 'The Platonic Blow' is a homosexual erotic poem with an intruging publishing history. Thought to be have been written in 1948, it remained unpublished until 1965 (the year before this issue) when poet and musician Ed Sander's obtained a copy from an employee of The Morgan Library and published it without Auden's permission in the controversial Fuck You magazine- complete with a cover by Andy Warhol. The poem was chirstened a "gobble poem" in relation to the act of nonconsensually publishing Auden's work from his very notebooks. It was even published by the Eupean magazine 'Suck' under this title.
