[ANONYMOUS]. H.M.S. Sussex 1934-1937. Illustrations by the Diving Store Photo Firm (C.E.R.A. Cann and E.R.A. Brown). Valletta, Malta, Critien's, 1937.

8vo. Original cloth, lettered in brown and grey; pp. 153, plates after photographs, one folding sheet of music, one folding pictorial map, cloth lightly marked, a few minor spots here and there, otherwise very good, text printed on eggshell laid paper, plates in sepia.
Extremely rare first edition of the ship's crews reminiscences of a naval tour from Australia to the Middle East, which involved fighting Arabs in mandate Palestine, working in cooperation with the Mandate Palestine Police. This time Arabs attacked Mandate troops on a train, not Ottomans. 'While our fortunate brethren were dashing about the countryside in lorries and trains or firing howitzers at Arab snipers on Mount Gerizim, the rest of us kept the ship going' (p. 101). In the editor's preface is stated, that 'this book has been hastily compliled during the last month but one of the commission' (p. vii). - Loosely inserted two original photos of the ship and the four-page illustrated Souvenir Guide for the ship.
We were able to locate only two copies of this title, both in Australia; not in COPAC.
