This monograph on the continet prepares the settler with useful knowledge, focuses on agricultural products intriduced by Europeans, such as vines, olives, tobacco, mulberry trees for silk production, and cattle farming. The chapter on the gold fields on the final 39 pages deals as well with the social and moral effects of the gold rush.
