Landscape 4to.; publisher's red cloth-backed olive and pale green pictorial boards, spine lettered in Russian in cream, red endpapers, red ribbon marker; pp. [vi], 7-264 + [iii]; beautifully illustrated throughout in profusion, largely in colour, with a host of illustrations for Alice drawn from a wide range of illustrators and nationalities; a fine copy; scarce.
First edition, text in Russian throughout. The book opens with an article by Olga Demourova "How to illustrated the Multitude", (from Carroll's "How to draw the multitude?") and discusses the history of artwork produced for "Alice in Wonderland", in chronological order, talking mostly about English, Russian and American artists. This is followed by an article on the history of Russian translations of "Wonderland" by Nina Demourova, entitled "Sonya, Anya, Alice …. ". The full text of Alice in Nina Demourova's transation follows, printed on light olive paper, with each episode illustrated with a selection of pictures by different artists and Olga's commentaries, in Russian, below each picture. There are included 12 images from Salvador Dali's version, permitted by his estate. Loosely inserted is a printed email from the author Nina Demourova to the Carroll scholar Judy Taylor Hough discussing and describing the book, which was sent as a gift.
