AGGREY, James. The Eagle that would not Fly … illustrated by Wolf Erlbruch. Hayes, Magi Publications, .
Oblong 4to. Original illustrated boards, not paginated, colour illustrations throughout, portrait of the author in black and white, bilingual text in Punjabi and English.
Very rare first Punjabi-English edition of this children's book, the only book by the South African-American intellectual, missionary and teacher James Emman Kwegyir Aggrey (1875-1927). Campaigning for co-education in Ghana he once said 'The surest way to keep people down is to educate the men and neglect the women. If you educate a man you simply educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a whole nation'. The book had been published first in German in 1985 with these illustrations.
