Original decorated wrappers, patterned endpapers; pp. [viii], 9-47 + [i]; with coloured frontispiece and 13 line drawings and vignettes by Rackham; a nice copy with a little external dusting and a few short tears to the yapp edges, as usual; internally generally clean, with just a few tiny fox spots to half-title and title.
Early Rackham edition; the first was published with 4 coloured plates by this same artist, in 1932. This is a fantasy written, by Ruskin, for Effie Gray, being a fairy tale in which love, goodness and kindness triumph over evil. First published in 1851 it became an early Victorian classic and sold out three editions.
