First edition. The musings about and a history of writing implements, as well as their use in Victorian society make the ensuing trade catalogue appear like a proper book. The main purpose, however, is to sell the products manufactured by F. Mordan. The company goes back to Sampson Mordan Senior, who was born in 1790 and was an assistant of the mechanic John Bramah, the inventor of patent locks, and an associate of Michael Faraday. Mordan established his business in 1815 and patented his first ever-pointed or propelling pencil in 1822.
