We are proud to be sponsoring for the second year part of the 2017 Conference for the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), a division of the American Library Association (ALA). This year the Conference is being held in Iowa City June 20–23, 2017. As sponsors we get a free single place at the Conference, but we find that due to circumstances nobody from the Company will be able to attend. There is therefore a free registration place up for grabs (please note that this does not cover travel, hotel or subsistence costs). If you are interested please contact Andrew. Description: Original copper engraved map with later hand colouring as published in Amsterdam. With a central title Cartouche featuring natives and monkeys and compass roses on either side. Showing part of modern day Nigeria with the city of Benin and Rio d Lagos. Also includes the Island of Fernando Po where Sir Richard Francis Burton KCMG FRGS (19 March 1821 – 20 October 1890), English explorer, geographer, translator, writer, soldier, Orientalist, cartographer, ethnologist, spy, linguist, poet, fencer, served as British consul.

~b~First edition of a scarce book, association copy.~i~ 'Brooks' Richards (1918-2002) had been in charge of organizing secret service agents for Channel crossings to France and across the Mediterranean to land in Tunisia. Much work was done by a flotilla of inocuous fishing boats of the Scilly Islands, and that is what the book is about. This particular copy has a seven-line signed inscription by the author to Stephen Ottery, director of the Isles of Scilly Museum, who contributed much to this book. … more …

Omsk, Kartigraficheskaia Fabrika for Glavnoe upravlenie geodesii i kartografii pri Sovete Ministrov SSSR, 1991. Large colour-printed map on four sheets (together 150 x 258 cm); an impressive survival from the last days of the Soviet Union.
This beautifully designed wall map was intended to be displayed in railway stations all over the vast country, depicted at a scale of 1 to 3,500,000. Although the printrun was - officially - 52,700 copies, we belive that only very few maps of the last days of the Soviet Union survived the ensuing chaotic years … more …

First edition, first issue. This tiny book was a revolutionary work and a landmark in the history of fly fishing. The book's small size was deliberate, as Blacker wished to provide a practical manual, "to afford the lovers of the gentle craft an opportunity of keeping it in their side-pocket..." … more …

St.Helens: Published by the author. [1912]. 8vo. Original green morocco, with 9 step mounted plates containing 100 flies; three flies with slight loss, otherwise very good indeed.
First edition, scarce in this state. It is unknown exactly how many copies were issued with the flies, but a letter from the author to the printer of the book, A.D. Bartlett, dated 2nd September 1912 states that there were 30 copies with the flies, plus two extra illustrated copies for the author himself and his collaborator, J. Unsworth.
Many of the flies seem very unconventional compared to those used by Halford and Skues, and include such unusual species as crane-flies and spiders. … more …

No, 125 of limited edition of 250, deluxe edition, signed by the publisher. This work had already run through ten editions and was an established landmark of angling literature. This lavish edition was a proper memorial to Ronalds, with the original plates re-struck and complemented by photographs of the author's favourite rivers. £2000 … more …
