ANON. Yangtze Hotel, Shanghai.
Original hotel luggage label, c.1935. 100 x 150 mm.
Renowned architect Li Pan designed the building, using Art Deco design aesthetics as the source of his inspiration. The hotel drew particular praise for the "Zig Zag" pattern that defined its signature ornate balconies.
The hotel had a large dance hall. Perhaps the greatest performer to appear here was Yao Li. Yao became famous for singing her song "Rose, Rose, I love you" at the venue from 1942-1946. Many international musicians would later go on to perform Yao's song across the world, including American singer Frankie Laine.
Very rare label with Chinese text.
