Original blue cloth, elaborate floral design to upper cover and spine, lettered in gilt; pp. xii, [2], 474, 40 (publisher's catalogue, dated March, 1904, with the present title listed as 'nearly ready'); photogravure frontispiece, plates in colour (including one after Howard Carter) and black and white, 2 folding colour-printed maps in pocket at rear; minor rubbing to extremities, internally only light spotting here and there, else a very good copy, with ownership inscription, dated 1904 and engraved armorial bookplate of Berkeley Cole Wilmot Williams of Herringston.

Over thirty tombs of the nobles of Awan were uncovered by a digging campaign under her leadership. In this history of Egypt from the earliest (then known) dynasties right to the beginning of the 20th century, with interesting chapters on Islam and Christianity in modern Egypt.
