ADAMS, William Henry Davenport. The Arctic World: Its Plants, Animals, And Natural Phenomena. With a Historical Sketch of Arctic Discovery. London, Thomas Nelson, 1876.
Small folio. Original maroon pictorial cloth; pp. 276, numerous wood-engraved plates and illustrations in the text; cloth a little marked and worn, light spotting at the beginning and end due to offsetting from endpapers; a good copy.
Probably second edition of this Victorian illustrated introduction to everything Arctic. The journalist, author and translator Adams (1828-1891) wrote widely on a broad range of subjects, including travel, natural history, and science, and the present work is one of a number that he wrote for a general readership.
