GREENE, Graham. A Burnt-Out Case. London: Heinemann, 1961.

Crown 8vo. Original black cloth, lettered in silver to spine; with dust wrapper designed by Lacey Everett; pp. [x], 3-256; slight shelf-lean, a little pushed to head and foot, but else a near-fine copy in jacket which is very good, just a little faded and rubbed along the spine; slightly browning to the upper edge.
First English language edition. Set in a leper colony on the upper reaches of a tributary of the Congo River in Africa, the book was dedicated to Docteur Michel Lechat, of whom the author wrote: "Doctor Colin has borrowed from you his experience of leprosy and nothing else. Doctor Colin's leproserie is not your leproserie.... From the fathers of your Mission I have stolen the Superior's cheroots--that is all, and from your Bishop the boat that he was so generous as to lend me for a journey up the Ruki."
