Collection: Private Press
The Literature department here at Sotheran’s have recently acquired a wonderful collection of Private Press books, mostly dating from the 1920s and 30s. There is a proliferation of items from the Nonesuch and Golden Cockerel Presses (also including reference works), but also featured are items from the Cuala, Gregynog, Anvil, De la More, Temple-Sheen, Mainstone, Curwen, Kelmscott and Ampleforth presses. Some are presented in deluxe vellum bindings, and many come complete with their original glassines, slipcases, and/or jackets.
Particular highlights are beautiful copies of the Shakespeare Head Press edition of the Canterbury Tales, Homer's Odyssey translated by T.E. Lawrence with typography by Bruce Rogers, and Paul Nash's illustrated Book of Genesis for the Nonesuch Press.
