AUSTEN, Jane. Sense and Sensibility. Macmillan & Co., London, 1909.
8vo. Original orange-brown cloth, decorated with floral motifs in black, gilt title, edges gilt; pp. xvi, 342, [2, ads]; very slight fading to spine, an attractive, bright copy with a 1912 school prize certificate to front endpaper.
A desirable edition of Austen's classic satrirical romance. This version contains illustrations by Hugh Thomson, a well regarded artist whose work is particularly noted for capturing the essence of Austen's work - so much so that many people already associate his style with her novels without even realising it. The Thomson illustrated editions from this period have distinctive (and sought after) decorated covers, which this copy retains.
