Second edition. First published anonymously in 1855, this is the earliest edition of the work to carry the author's name. Charles West (1816-1898) was the founder of the institution now better known as Great Ormond Street Hospital, which was opened in 1852. This work, in which West lays out his principles for the specialist care of children, was published to raise funds for the Hospital.
