Contemporary full brown morocco by Alexander Banks of Edinburgh, triple gilt fillets and crown to sides, spine with gilt lettering and rules, all edges gilt, silk endpapers; pp. [ii] + 160, folding coloured map, 16 hand-coloured plates, with hand-coloured key; map with repaired tear, very good. Provenance: presentation copy, prelim inscribed by the author to the Marquis of Tweeddale, with his bookplate to front pastedown. This was Arthur Hay (1824-1878), the 9th Marquis, of Yester House, near Gifford in East Lothian.
Second edition. A very handsome copy of this important survey of lowland geology.
