WODEHOUSE, P.G. A Gentleman of Leisure. London: Alston Rivers Limited, 1910.

8vo., original dark blue cloth lettered in gilt on spine and upper boards; pp. viii, 351, [i]; some foxing as usual, cloth a little rubbed and soiled, otherwise a very good copy.
First edition. Originally published in the US a few months earlier under the title The Intrusion of Jimmy.
The book originally appeared as a novella, The Gem Collector , in the December 1909 issue of Ainslee's Magazine. It was substantially revised and expanded for publication as a book under the title The Intrusion of Jimmy, by W.J. Watt and Co., New York, on 11 May 1910, and was serialised under that title in the British weekly magazine Tit-Bits between 11 June and 10 September before finally being published in this format on 15 November 1910.
In 1911, Wodehouse and playwright John Stapleton collaborated in adapting the novel into stage play starring Douglas Fairbanks and Ruth Shepley. In 1915, this stage version became the first of Wodehouse's works to be made into a silent film, starring Wallace Eddinger and Carol Holloway.
