LAMPE, Friedo; [Simon BEATTIE, Trans.] At the Edge of the Night. London: Hesperus Press, 2019.
8vo., softcovers with text in black and red; pp. xiii, [i], 123, [vii]; new.
First English translation of this incredibly important book by Friedo Lampe.
Lampe was a disabled gay German writer who survived the Third Reich only to be shot by the Red Army six days before the end of the Second World War. His haunting first book, Am Rande der Nacht ('At the Edge of the Night'), was banned by the Nazis in 1933 and not published again in Germany in its full form until 1999. (Blurb).
This first translation has been completed by Simon Beattie, bookseller.
