Crown 8vo., original black boards, lettered in gold to spine; iconic unclipped dust jacket by Andy Bridge; pp. [vi], vii-xvii, [iii], 3-653, [i]; a near-fine copy, with ever-so-slight pushing to spine tips and light creasing/scratching to jacket.
First edition (1), in the correct first state jacket, with just the Diana Athill review to the lower panel.
A lovely bright example of this Booker Prize-winning historical novel, made into a BBC TV mini series starring Mark Rylance as Thomas Cromwell, Damian Lewis as Henry VIII, and Claire Foy as Anne Boleyn. The title is taken after the Seymour family seat of Wolfhall or Wulfhall in Wiltshire. Set in the period from 1500 to 1535, it is a sympathetic fictionalised biography documenting the rapid rise to power of Thomas Cromwell in the court of Henry VIII through to the death of Sir Thomas More.
