BARTLETT, W.H. Walks About the City of Jerusalem and Its Environs. [London], Hall, Virtue & Co., [n.d.] c.1845.

8vo., Original dark red full morocco, elaborately lettered and decorated in gilt, all edges gilt; pp. x, [2], 255, engraved title-page, tinted frontispiece and steel-engraved plates, 3 maps (one double-page size), wood-engraved vognettes in text; wear to extremities, slight darkening to binding; occasional foxing to plates, as usual; ownership inscription to verso of frontispiece.
Second edition. Bartlett first visited the Levant in 1834-5; this journey resulted in the illustrations for Carne's Syria and the Holy Land (1836-8). The second journey was in August 1837 to March 1839, during which time he produced the plates for Pardoe's Beauties of the Bosphorus (1849). He visited Jerusalem in the summer of 1842, during his third visit to the Levant. Walks About Jerusalem was the first of his travel books that he both wrote and illustrated. Bartlett travelled widely in the Middle East, the United States and throughout Europe. He died in 1854 whilst returning from a long journey and was buried at sea.
