Small 8vo. Original cream linen-backed paper-covered boards decorated with a shamrock design in green, paper lettering-label to spine, uncut; pp. [vi], 7-58; a very good clean copy with light external rubbing and marking and small wear to spine label.
First edition, limited to 1190 numbered copies, this copy not numbered but inscribed Publisher's Copy, half-title signed by O' Flaherty. A series of three "fairy tales" of adult seriousness. The 'New York publisher and theater producer Crosby Gaige started his own publishing house in 1927 at the suggestion of Bennett Cerf of Random House. Over the next two years Gaige published 22 titles and several leading authors, including James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, Joseph Conrad and William Butler Yeats. After the Wall Street Crash of 1929 wiped out Gaige's publishing company, he devoted more time to his private press, Watch Hill Press, located on his property, Watch Hill Farm, near Peekskill, N.Y. At the Watch Hill Press, Gaige and his associate, James Hendrickson, worked with some of the greatest book designers of the time, including Frederic Warde and Bruce Rogers' (online under https://researchworks.oclc.org/archivegrid/collection/data/302423434).
