Original turquoise cloth, in pictorial lithographed dustwrapper; pp. ; with 24 impressive offset coloured lithographs collecting images of a comprehensive range of 320 species to show connections between animal groups; a very good copy with a small burn hole (5mm) to upper board (not affecting dustwrapper) with some adjacent rubbing to cloth, internally very good and crisp with occasional light spotting; the pleasing unclipped dustwrapper (7/6) with overall dust-soiling, rubbing to fore-edges and joints, marking to spine and lower panel, fraying to spine ends, and chipping to corners.
First edition, presented in a first issue dustwrapper priced 7/6, later priced 8/6. A serious study for the young which describes features, habitats and foods for each animal group while locating its habitats geographically on maps heightened in red. The production is the culmination of an ambitious project which took a year and involved the illustrator hand-lithographing each plate from studies executed at London Zoo.
