8vo.; publisher's red linson boards lettered in black, in pictorial dustwrapper; pp. [vi], 7-192; with coloured frontispiece and line drawings by Eileen Soper; externally fine with only faint speckling to edges of book block, internally equally fine and crisp with a neat contemporary ink inscription to half-title "From Daddie to Peter …"; in an unusually attractive, unclipped dustwrapper (6/-) with some dust-soiling to lower panel, mild rubbing to edges and corners, and one tiny nick to tail of spine.
Early reprint, first published in 1943. An early edition of only the second title in Blyton's Famous Five series, following Five on a Treasure Island of 1942. In this story Julian, Dick, Anne, Georgina (George) and Timmy the dog are holidaying at Kirrin Cottage. There they discover a mysterious rag with odd directions for 'a Secret Way' which leads to a wealth of adventure involving sliding panels, moving stones, stolen papers, and cupboards with false backs.
